Really, a "railway town" is defined as a town which largely grew up, or expanded, as a result of the railway. This is not the same as "railway centre". Thus Ashford, Crewe, Doncaster, Darlington, Eastleigh etc clearly qualify, but not London, Birmingham or Manchester. Suburbs within a city might, e.g. Tyseley, Gorton, Springburn.
